1. What is contemporary dance?

Contemporary is a dance style developed and popularised in the mid-20th century in the United States of America. Contemporary dance form is solely based on body movements. One would require to feel their emotion deeply enough to play them out through their movements. There are multiple techniques that could be followed in contemporary dance i.e. Martha Graham Technique, Cunningham Technique, Horton Technique, Flying Low Technique, Improvisation and Contract and Release, and more.

 2. How do I know if my toddler likes dancing?

Even though excelling in dance really depends on one's devotion and practice, to an extent it could also depend on one's ease with body movements and a natural sense of rhythm. Although these traits can be developed over time, they come naturally to most dancers and can be a stark indicator of your toddler’s possible passion for dance in the future. So, you that your baby may be a future dancer if they- ● move their body a lot throughout the day ● use body movements to express themselves ● move around, tap their feet, clap their hands, nod their head when they hear music The list mentioned above could be an indicator for sure. Still, you will understand your baby’s talent and interest only when they are in a dance class and are learning under instructions in the proper environment.

 3. Can I start dancing at 16?

Yes, you absolutely can. You are still very young and an advantage you‘d have is that you would be able to learn things more quickly and make the most out of the resources available to you. You will be able to study and understand the dance's theoretical part and other complex themes based around it. You will meet a lot of veteran dancers of your age, but you will also find a lot of beginner-level dancers of your age. It doesn't really matter how early you start, what matters is for how long you hold onto it with a burning passion and commitment. You are never too late to start doing something you love!

 4. Should dancers stretch every day?

Yes, a dancer indeed should stretch every day in order to improve and retain their flexibility. Regular stretching also strengthens your muscles which is very important too. It is advised to do strength training and body conditioning practices regularly but they are very intense, that's why a dancer must stretch every day, work a little on their mobility of joints, and do some strength training. Also, please be aware of what you are doing and don't get hurt. Another point that needs to be noted is that everyone's body is different and your body may not act the same every day, and that's how it should be. So, listen to your body’s unique requirements too.

5. How do I relax after a dance session?

Relaxing your muscles and mind after a rigorous dance session is part of your dance training and here’s how you do itStep 1 - Lay down on the floor, in the position you feel the most comfortable in. Step 2- Breathe in, Breathe out. Take long and heavy breaths to bring back your system to normal oxygen level. You can use this time to do Pranayam also. Step 3- Revise everything that you learnt in the session. Think of any questions that you may ask your teacher, or if you want to ask for feedback or any step that you may need to clarify from your mate. Step 4- Hydrate! For god’s love put some water into your dried-up system. Step 5- if possible, then take a shower and take that time to relax in solitude. Feel gratitude and perform positive affirmations during this time. Step 6- If you have taken a relaxing shower, then you now would like to invest your calm and positive state of mind into something important, perhaps studying or researching for something, so do that.
